The Story Behind EZ Louver: Making Beautiful Design Accessible to Everyone
In the spring of 2020, my husband, Gary, decided our backyard needed an upgrade. Our old picket fence was fine. It was gray and weathered from age, but it was standing. Gary had a specific vision though. He got the idea from a friend of ours, Tom.
Gary wanted a horizontally louvered entry to our backyard that would be welcoming and could provide complete privacy without sacrificing a refreshing breeze or natural sunshine.
So, he got to work.

First, he looked for an existing product or bracket system that could simplify the process. Nothing was available. He would have to build this project by hand.
The compliments started rolling in immediately. Neighbors passing by would stop and ask how they could get a fence just like it. They were so encouraging!
But there was a catch: the sheer amount of grueling labor.

Gary spent months meticulously hand-cutting and measuring every single slat to get the perfect louvered look. If we wanted to help our neighbors replicate it, or if anyone wanted to hire a contractor to build one, the labor costs would be astronomically high. It just wasn't practical for the everyday DIYer or professional builder.
If we wanted to make louvered projects easier for other people, we would have to create the solution ourselves.
From Prototype to Perfection
We set out to design a bracket that would eliminate the guesswork, the endless measuring, and the intense labor of building louvered structures.
We started with one prototype.

And then another.

And another.

We looped in family expertise to get it right. My nephew, Richard, used his engineering background from Notre Dame to help refine the design, while our son-in-law, Pawan, wrapping up his MBA at UCLA, helped us map out how to actually bring this solution to the world.
By the end of 2023, we officially launched EZ Louver with our first market-tested bracket. But we didn’t stop there. We listened to early feedback, refined the design, and continuously made adjustments. Today, we have a bracket we are incredibly proud of. It’s engineered specifically to take the frustration out of building a louvered project.
A Family Affair with a Big Mission
Running a small business is a true labor of love. I work on EZ Louver full-time, while Gary splits his time between this and our other business. Our eldest daughter has done some marketing and social media for us, and yes—we still pack and ship our orders by hand right out of our garage.
Our goal from day one was simple: take a high-end, complex architectural look and make it achievable for anyone.
And that’s the best part of this journey. Every week, we hear from customers who are transforming their spaces using our brackets. Because we made the process easy, people aren't just building fences. They are creating stunning outdoor showers, custom privacy screens, and even stylized compost bins.
When Gary started cutting those first wooden slats back in 2020, he was just trying to build a better fence. We never imagined it would lead to creating a tool that empowers thousands of other people to build beautiful, practical spaces of their own, one effortless bracket at a time.
