Setting a Solid Foundation
Every great build starts with a solid base. Warren set four corner posts, taking the time to ensure they were level and plumb right from the start. He knew this step would make for smooth sailing through the rest of the project.
Smart Mounting and Clean Trim
Next came a fascia or cover board on the front of each post to act as a built-in stopper. The board essentially catches the slats, making alignment and installation easier. Mounting the brackets came next. Warren stacked two brackets on each post and cut another bracket to add three more slats.
Slat Installation and Maintenance Gaps
With the hardware secured, the cedar pickets dropped right into place. Cedar naturally stands up to harsh elements, and angling the pickets shields the unit from direct sunlight while preserving the critical, unrestricted airflow equipment needs to breathe. He also left a deliberate gap at the bottom of the five-foot structure, a smart, real-world touch that makes running the mower and weed eater around the base completely hassle-free.
The Finished Upgrade
